arrange one of our own. Please see the noticeboard for current ideas and
example of camp timetable.

Congratulations to all those who swam in the Dyce Mini Meet in January
and in the Carnegie Spring Meet in Febraury. 5 medals were won at Dyce and 3 at
Carnegie, together with many personal best times. Thanks also to the parents
who helped out at these events. Results are available via the "Events"
page on this site.
Congratulations to two Club Members - added
24.1.10
Andrew Hood, one of our Development Squad swimmers (and last year’s boys'
captain), has earned a place in the British Olympic Triathlon Talent Squad.
Rod Stoddart, one of our volunteers who helps on poolside at most of the
sessions, has been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for
his voluntary services to Tayside Mountain Rescue. Rod kindly carried out a
river rescue demo during the interval at the Club Championships in October.
Membership Renewal
- added 24.1.10
The annual membership renewal paperwork is being sent out to members. The
annual membership fee remains at £50 for the first swimmer in a family, then
drops to £40 for the second and £30 for the third. Squad training fees remain
the same and all Saturday swimmers will now pay £11.00
per month.
Club AGM - added 24.1.10
The Club AGM was held at the
end of November. A copy of the minutes is on the Club noticeboard. The
President's address included the following aims for the coming year:-
- More effective use of swim times.
- Gaining greater commitment from swimmers.
- Lane sharing with adjacent Clubs to provide valuable additional pool time
at no extra cost to members.
- Participate in more galas and ensure at least bimonthly timing of all
swimmers to monitor progress and structure training. I want to see more
competitive and timed events scheduled into the yearly programme for all
junior, improver and development squad swimmers to give a measure of
improvement as well as providing motivation and personal goal setting.
- Investigate a swim camp abroad for a 7 day period in October to reward
those with dedication and provide an intensive coaching experience with Gina
Logan and myself leading the group.
- Liaison with Fife Swim Group to
deliver a coordinated swimming development initiative that moves swimming
forward with access to a higher level of competitive swimming programmes
whilst still being a member of CADSC.
- Either encourage more help from
parents as volunteers to assist in the running
every aspect of the club or alternatively reward those who seem to the bulk of
the graft in running the Club by offering a concession as free Club membership
to one swimmer.
-
Purchase meet manager software and time management package.
-
Purchase underwater microphone for coaching.
-
Purchase video equipment for swim analysis and coaching.
-
Initiate structured coach mentoring and CPD programme.
-
Provide all technical officials with whites, and encourage swimmers and
coaches to wear Club colours to create a strong identity and sense of
belonging.
Volunteer Courses
- added 24.1.10
Courses are in the process of being organised for parents to sign up
for. We are hoping to hold, with the help of Gina Logan, a Level 1 Coach course
and Poolside Helpers course shortly – please watch the board for notices. There
will also be a Time-Keepers course and Judge Level 1 course shortly – notices
for these are already on the board. The Time-Keepers course needs a minimum of
8 people so please sign up.
Galas
and Fife Leagues - added 24.1.10
This year Andy Crichton is
organising all the external
galas and, with Nikki Currie, the Fife Leagues entries. Currently planned
galas are shown on our Events web page.
New Members
- added 16.1.10
We are pleased that we have a stream of new members joining us - and more are
welcome. Most swimmers join us via the Saturday morning sessions when they
are in primary school, but established swimmers are also welcome to join us in
the appropriate squad.
To join the Saturday morning teaching sessions swimmers need to be able to
swim a length on their front and a length on their back. Those who are
around level-seven in the
Sports Centre's learn-to-swim programme are likely to be set to benefit
from the Saturday sessions. Those who wish to swim to develop style and
fitness are welcome to join us for this, and for those who wish to take part in competitive
swimming, opportunities can arise as their swimming progresses.
Potential new members are welcome to come to three sessions free of charge to
see if they wish to join the Club. Potential new members are
invited to come to the pool at 8 am on Saturday mornings to let us judge what
session would best suit them.
Membership Renewal
- added 16.1.10
Current members should shortly be getting a letter with a request for membership
renewal. We hope that you will wish to join again for the new year.
Please return your forms and indication of payment mechanism by 25 February.
It would also be appreciated if those who are not planning to join again would
let us know.
Galas
- added 16.1.10
There are a number of swimming competitions coming up, including graded
meets and the Fife Leagues. Our "Events" page contains a list of many of
these. Andy has/is/will contact selected swimmers to invite them to take
part in relevant events. Several meets will need for entry authenticated times
for a previous swim in that stroke over that distance.
Distance
Championships
- added 13.1.10
The annual distance championships will be held over four weekends in
March. Club members are encouraged to enter these events, using the entry
form that will be sent out on paper or which may be found
here.

Swimming club took part in these championships. The format of the event meant
that all swimmers swam 50 m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 50m
Freestyle races, as well as the the 200 m Individual Medley (50m of each stroke
in turn, in one race). The results achieved by the Club's swimmers were
magnificent. From 47 swims there were no less than 33 personal best times.
Particularly noteworthy improvements in personal best times in the Individual
Medley were from Megan Cleary taking 21 seconds off her previous best and from
Calum Crichton taking 19 seconds off. In the 50 m sprint races the best
improvements were from Nicola Howat in the breaststroke (8.3 s improvement) and

Club in the individual events came from Alex Reid and Shannon Currie, who came
8th in the 50 m freestyle 13/14 years boys and the 50 m butterfly 11/12 years

of 2:44.08 and obtained bronze medal position in this race with their
outstanding efforts.
The leader boards were dominated by the large West Fife Clubs "Fins" and

Sonali Jayasekera Trophy
Awarded
Alice Borchers has been presented with the Sonali Jayasekera memorial trophy by
the Club. This new trophy is to be awarded annually to a swimming member
displaying long-term commitment to their own swimming development whilst helping
develop skills and positive attitudes in others, and supporting the club and
charities through sponsored swims etc. Alice was presented with the trophy by
the Club's Chief Coach Lesley Jayasekera. The trophy has been awarded in memory
of Lesley's daughter, who had shown her own long-term commitment to swimming and
developing skills in others, before passing away at a tragically early age.
Alice (17) has been a member of the Club for ten years, and regularly swims for
the Club in events such as the Fife Leagues. She has recently passed as a
level-one swimming teacher as well as her lifeguard qualification, and regularly
helps teach and coach younger swimmers in the Club.

Fife LeisureTrust tell us that
the Cupar Pool may be closing later this calendar year for major maintenance
work. In order that this should not disrupt the Club's Annual Club
Championships we now plan to hold the Club Championships earlier that usual,
with the first heats being held on 1 October. All Club members are
encouraged to enter as many events as possible in their age group. There
is no fee needed for entry. Entry forms are being distributed in various
ways, including by this link - Entry

Back to normal
swimming times- added 13.8.09
Fife Leisure Trust had told us
that the Cupar Swimming Pool was to be closed from 17 August for major repairs.
We emailed swimmers' families to tell them of alternative arrangements that we
had made for swimming sessions. Today we learnt that the pool is no longer
to be closed at this time, but may do so sometime after 31 October. Thus
from Tuesday 18 August we return to the usual school-term time swimming session
schedules, as per the usual Training Times page
here.

local children of primary school age a set of three swimming lessons with the

take place on Saturday mornings, with the set of three lessons
starting on 4 July and on 25 July. Qualified instructors will be available
for all lessons. Those attending should be at level 6 or above in the
Council's Learn to Swim programme. This means that they should be able to
swim in deep water competently. They should be able to swim without
stopping 2 x 15 m widths in frontcrawl, 2 x 15 m widths in backcrawl, and 2 x 15
m widths kicking breaststroke. Enrolement is on a first come, first served

significant successes in the Fife Swimming Leagues. In the most recent gala 19

the age group competitions. In the Novice League our team was third out of
12 teams in the boys nine and under, third out of 15 teams in the girls nine and
under, sixth out of 14 teams in the boys 10-12, and sixth out of 20 teams in the
girls 10-12. In the more senior league our boys 11-12 team was fourth of
the 10 teams, and in the girls 11-12 sixth out of 10 teams. In the boys
13-14 we were third of eight, and in the girls ninth of 12. In the 15 and
